Brundibár by Hans Krása (music) and Adolf Hoffmeister (libretto) is a jewel of children's opera literature and a sounding monument to the memory of the children in the Theresienstadt ghetto. The adventure of Aninka and Pepíček, who together with the sparrow, dog, cat and the children of their town defeat the evil organ grinder, is in its core a parable about the meaning of humanity and the power of solidarity. What their creators experienced, missed and hoped for in their hometown of Prague in 1938, they planted into the realm of fairytale utopia. The book tells the story on which the opera is based for children aged four and over.
